Annika’s Training Contract Diary

My name is Annika and I am a Trainee Solicitor at Lewis Rodgers Solicitors in Winsford, Cheshire. The Partners at the firm approached me and asked me to complete a fortnightly blog on my Training Contract almost like a ‘Training
Contract Diary’

Before commencing my Training Contract I was working as a Legal Clerk and I was mainly involved in domestic violence cases. I started my Training Contract on the 3rd October 2011 and have been busy since!
I have encountered numerous cases and clients since beginning my Training Contract and I have already learnt so much.

Although I have still been attending court and making applications in domestic violence cases since my Training Contract started I have experienced many other different areas of law.

I have been able to observe my Training Contract Supervisor Jason Lewis carrying out appointments and liasing with clients in the initial stages of divorce applications and children act applications. I have then been able to carry out the necessary procedures, which follow after a new client wishes to commence proceedings.

I have observed my Training Contract Supervisor in court on a number of Children Act Applications and I was involved in a 4 day Criminal trial at the Crown Court.

This has enabled me to increase my knowledge on proceedings and the court procedure, as well as being able to work closely with Counsel and learn a lot more about court proceedings.

And it goes without saying that due to all of the above I have also been able to practice my drafting skills by drafting numerous forms and letters to clients. My typing skills have also increased as I have had great practice trying to type and keep up with fast speaking Counsel, quietly spoken witnesses and mumbling judges!
